Complaining Gets You More of What You Don’t Want

It is sad to see so much anger and hatred being spread in the name of protecting the world and people’s way of life.  Just when you think we are making progress toward a more evolved level of consciousness we get a new bunch of suicide bombers and wanton killers to challenge the positive visions of a better world.  Without our global news media and its insatiable appetite for horror those sick deeds of a very few would have little significance in the reality of most of our lives.  However, our omnipresent media very quickly makes them stars in the reality play that has been created for our entertainment.

I say entertainment because we are the voracious consumers of all of this bad news.  Our actual “entertainment” programs are filled with horror and pain.  It is the audience ratings that sell the commercial time that fund the 24 hour a day search for tragedies and injustices to report on.  You may say that it is all very real and we need to know about it to fight it or protect ourselves from it.  I will agree that it is real but what you need to realize is that your attention to it that makes it thrive and grow.  The attention we give terrorists and “evil doers” of all kinds does nothing to diminish their power or numbers. On the contrary, it is that attention that energizes their efforts and gives them validation.

One day the majority of people will come to realize that we are the designers of reality, not helpless experiencers of it. Reality is not something that happens to us.  As difficult as it is for most people to accept, everything that happens in a person’s life is their personal choice.  Don’t get me wrong, it is often an unintentional choice but it is still the individual’s choice 100% of the time.   If you get blown up by a suicide bomber, it was you that accepted that possible reality.  It was your choice.

This is why the news media is such a harmful force.  The media (admittedly in response to the desires of the audience) creates a danger filled picture of reality.  Anyone who becomes convinced that they are personally at risk is giving permission for themselves to be thrown into the middle of the action.  Choosing your personal reality is much like choosing what channel to watch.  Do you choose to believe in a romantic comedy, a big adventure or a crime drama?  What kind of story do you decide to be a part of?  If you can recognize that it is YOUR choice, you can always live in the reality you actually want to be a part of.  Equally important is the fact that by you making that choice, you have added energy to that version of reality that will help make that version of reality more dominant as a worldview for others.

It really is like every other aspect of life:  focus only on the things you are happy about and give you satisfaction and “ Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil”.  No evil can befall you unless thinking makes it so.
